PERSONA

A day in the life of

MARCO POOR

It was 4.30 am in the sweltering deserts of Solomon. And like every day of the week time for Marco to get out of bed. Woken up by the propaganda on his radio he started off the day a little annoyed. Then sat down with a cup of coffee while reading the trade union newspaper. While his children were still sleeping his wife joined him in the kitchen and gave him his freshly washed working clothes. After a brief shower of scarce water and a reminder of the importance of his job for his family Marco took off to work in his old van. While driving on the dusty roads Marco was daydreaming about a bright future with his family in a free country where they could travel and where he could live off painting and exercising his passion. But quick he banned these thoughts out of his head and was even more motivated to provide for his family. Marco works as a petroleum refiner in a large refinery in Solomon. This area is especially used by the petrol industry and provides  petroleum gas, petrol and fuel. After a hard and long day of work Marco headed back home. While coughing due to inhaling toxic fumes all day he was thinking about his children and a little smile appeared on his face. Finally he came home to his wife making dinner and his children running towards him. These where the things that kept Marco motivated to function in this system. And then he realized that he was just a small piece of a vast society that gave everyone the opportunity to live a life even if it could be a miserable one.
